What we help with

Braced To Grow makes custom-fitted spinal braces for children with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS), juvenile idiopathic scoliosis (JIS), or infantile idiopathic scoliosis (IIS), as well as scoliosis or kyphosis of neuromuscular or syndromic origin.

We support children who have been advised to consider, or proceed with, spinal bracing as part of their orthopaedic care plan. This usually follows a medical review, imaging, and recommendation from a doctor. Our role is to provide orthotic assessment, brace design, fitting, adjustment, and follow-up support in close partnership with your child's care providers.

Supporting children through the spinal bracing journey

Measurements and digital scanning for brace design
A custom brace made around fit, correction goals, comfort, and wearability
Clear guidance for parents and children
Adjustments as your child grows or as fit changes
Coordination with your child's care team where appropriate

Liu Chang, Orthotist

Liu Chang (LC), is an ISPO Category I certified Prosthetist & Orthotist who has worked exclusively with children.

Before starting Braced To Grow, LC was a Senior Prosthetist & Orthotist at KK Women's and Children's Hospital, where she focused on paediatric orthotics, including spinal braces for scoliosis and other orthotic needs. She has fitted more than 2,000 orthotic braces for children, including more than 700 spinal braces.

LC is BSPTS-certified in the Rigo Concept for scoliosis bracing, and has trained in Rigo-style, Boston-style, and body-jacket brace systems — allowing her to match the bracing approach to each child's curve pattern and correction goals, rather than applying a single system by default.

LC's approach is calm, practical, and child-centred. She understands that a scoliosis brace must do more than fit on the body — it also has to work within a child's school day, family routine, growth, movement, clothing, confidence, and comfort.

Our approach

Thoughtful spinal bracing,
made around the child

1

Child-first fitting

Children are not small adults. Braces need to account for growth, school, rest, skin comfort, movement, clothing, and emotional adjustment.

2

Clear explanations

We explain the process in accessible language so parents and children understand what the brace is for, how it should feel, and when to ask for adjustments.

3

Careful fabrication

Each brace is custom made. We use digital tools where appropriate to improve precision, consistency, and turnaround time.

4

Collaborative care

Scoliosis bracing often sits within a wider care pathway. We work with doctors, physiotherapists, and other care providers where appropriate.

5

Support that continues at home

A well-fitted brace only helps if it's worn as intended. We build simple, encouraging wear-time support into every brace, so everyone can see how things are going.

Digital tools

Digital tools for better fit and faster turnaround

Braced To Grow uses digital scanning, design tools, modern fabrication methods and 3D printing.

Our aim is not to use technology for its own sake. It is to make the scoliosis bracing process more consistent, reduce avoidable delays, and support careful fitting for each child.

We're also building simple ways for parents and clinicians to stay on the same page about wear time between visits — practical and reassuring, not intrusive.

How it works

Six steps, from enquiry to follow-up

1

Enquiry

Share what has been recommended for your child, along with any referral notes or X-ray reports if available.

2

Assessment

LC reviews your child's scoliosis bracing needs, body shape, daily routine, and practical concerns around brace wear.

3

Measurement

We take the measurements and perform a digital scan to create accurate models needed to design the brace.

4

Design

The brace is designed and 3D-fabricated to support orthotic goals, with attention to fit, comfort, and daily wearability.

5

Fitting

Your child tries the brace on. We check the fit, make adjustments, and explain how to build up wear time.

6

Follow Up & Adjustments

Children grow. We provide support to review fit, comfort, and practical issues.

For parents

When your child needs a scoliosis brace, the next steps can feel unclear

Parents often come to us after a school screening, doctor's review, X-ray, or recommendation for a brace. It is normal to have questions:

Will the brace be uncomfortable?
How many hours will my child need to wear it?
Will it affect school, sleep or sport?
How do we know if it fits properly?
What happens as my child grows?
What should we expect at our first visit to the orthotics studio?

Braced To Grow helps families understand the scoliosis bracing process in plain language, while working carefully around each child's body, routine, and stage of growth.

For clinicians

For doctors, physiotherapists, and other care providers

Braced To Grow is a paediatric orthotics studio that supports children who have been advised to consider or proceed with scoliosis bracing, across AIS, JIS and IIS, as well as scoliosis or kyphosis of neuromuscular or syndromic origin. LC is BSPTS-certified in the Rigo Concept and fits Rigo-style, Boston-style, and body-jacket TLSO (thoraco-lumbo-sacral orthosis) systems, selected to match each child's curve pattern and correction goals.

We can assist with:

Paediatric spinal brace fitting
Brace replacement or review
Parent and child education around brace use
Fit reviews and practical adjustment support
Coordination around brace objectives and follow-up needs where appropriate

Each brace starts with digital scanning, modelling, and design, then is precision 3D printed in certified skin-safe polypropylene. Built into the process is a wear-time tracking sensor, accessible via a web-based dashboard for clinicians, so you can monitor compliance and progress without waiting for the next appointment.
